Chouhan’s agitation unconstitutional, uncalled for: Cong

Bhopal, June 15, 2012 (HMNS): The Congress has said that the proposed daylong fast of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Cabinet colleagues on June 15 is unconstitutional. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman JP Dhanopia in a statement here on Thursday said, “The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s announcement to hold an agitation on June 15 against the Union Government in which Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Cabinet colleagues would also participate is unconstitutional.”

Dhanopia said that if those holding constitutional posts after taking oath of safeguarding the Constitution would not work on a day, then the principle of no work no salary must surely apply to them. This is because the Chief Minister and Ministers fall in the category of public servants.
He said that, as there would be no Government in the State on June 15 and the Chief Minister and his Ministers would be on agitation, the Chief Secretary of the State should ensure that the salary of that day is not disbursed.
The Chief Secretary should also ensure that on the day of agitation, the Chief Minister and his Ministers should not avail the benefit of Government facilities they enjoy and no Government employee should work for them on the agitation day, he added.
The Congress spokesman said that if the Chief Minister believes in morality, he should not take part in the agitation of the BJP because he has taken the oath of the Constitution for serving the State. If he participates in the agitation, he and his Ministers should not accept salary for that day and should also not avail other Government benefits for the day.
