PDS activist shot Madhya Pradesh police officer

Bhopal,June 18,  2012 (HMNS): Madhya Pradesh has become a haven of all kinds of mafia. A 55-year-old social activist, who was trying to draw attention to alleged corruption in distribution of wheat in Madhya Pradesh, was shot dead at a village near Jabalpur.

The incident took place on Saturday as the victim, Ambika Prasad Dubey, and some locals stopped a vehicle carrying PDS grain in Jhilpani village, near Narsingpur. Villagers claimed that they wanted district officials to come and see for themselves how they were being denied their full quota of PDS grain.
A team of police personnel reached the spot to get the vehicle released. According to the daughter of the victim, the villagers began protesting when the police tried to take away the truck.A police inspector allegedly shot Dubey.
Critically injured, Dubey was rushed to a nearby hospital by the villagers. But he died on his way. His daughter Aarti claimed, “My father was shot at point-blank range.”

According to reports, Ambika Prasad Dubey, 40, was shot in his chest and stomach at point blank range after he along with some local residents stopped a vehicle carrying PDS grain in Jhilpani village.

Villagers said they wanted district officials to come and see for themselves how they were being denied their quota of PDS grain. A team of police personnel led by town Inspector Ashutosh Chand reached the spot to get the vehicle released. After a heated exchange, the policemen allegedly shot Dubey and fled from the spot. The accused police officer has not been arrested yet. The police are tight-lipped about the incident.

Jabalpur IG V Madhu Kumar said, “Inspector Ashutosh Chand and eight other policemen have been attached to the police line but no case has been registered,” adding “The inquiry would reveal the exact circumstances leading to the incident.”

Kumar said that comments can only be made after a thorough investigation into the incident.  Narsingpur SP GG Pandey said two complaints have been lodged and a magisterial inquiry has

also been ordered into the incident.
