Water scarcity hits Pithampur,
industries facing closure
Bhopal, June 14, 2012 (HMNS) : The highly
recognised industrial areas of the state Pithampur and SEZ are facing huge
trouble due to water scarcity. The administration is oblivious of the problem.
The industries are facing a shutdown along with a huge production loss
amounting to at least Rs 10 crore.
The water unavailability has
struck the industrial belt of the state at Pithampur and SEZ in such a bad way
that the companies operating in the industrial area have to stop their
production work. The problems are rising when nobody is showing concern over
the unavailability of water in the industrial area. Industries operating here
need huge amount of water. It is stated that the industrial areas Pithampur and
SEZ receive water from two sources namely Sanjay water body and the Karam dam.
The Karam dam provides water to the Sector 3 of Pithmapur. As per the present
state of Sanjay water body, it would only enable water supply for the next
seven days. The SEZ receives 50 per cent water supply from the Karam dam and
the remaining 50 per cent from Sanjay water body.
The water available in these
water bodies are also facing the problem of water theft. The government assured
the industrial belt by naming major projects to them. Eventually, they failed
to even manage the available resources and show responsibility towards them.
The management of present resources has to be done properly for development of
the state.
The production loss is reported
to be Rs 10 crore over last few days.
Top guns face production loss
Mahindra has also faced water trouble in carrying out its operations. The
company is enabling its operations to carry out smoothly by having water from Indore city. The problems
faced by the companies are even not paid attention.
The companies
present in the industrial area are less assured that they would find resolution
of the problems. The industries cannot carry out their operations with the help
of water supply from tankers. The reason is that the tankers provide hard water
which is not effective to carry out their operations.
There are many industries which
have production run with engine- based processes. There are reportedly 50
percent companies which have engine based process. The remaining 50 per cent
industries are facing huge water scarcity. The problem would only be resolved
when there is a heavy rainfall.
This rainfall would enable the
Karam dam and the Sanjay water body to have at least water presence due to
which the situation would improve. It is also reported that the chief minister
along with his team would be visiting Japan for a business meet.
But Bridgestone, which had to
shut down its production in Pithampur due to water crisis, is basically from Japan. The CM
is travelling to Japan
to invite more industries to develop and establish the operations in Madhya
Pradesh. Accordingly, Bridgestone daily required around five lakh litres of
water to manage and carry out their operations. The company was provided a
water supply ranging between 2.5 and 3 lakh litres.
Now even this is not available. No
regular monitoring of water, finding no solutions to the problem of water theft
and not providing right information to the industrialists are the major reasons
of water scarcity.
