CM violated model code of conduct: Congress

Bhopal, June 18, 2012 (HMNS) : The State Congress has accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of violating model code of conduct by announcing interest free loans to farmers and the Opposition has asked the State Election Commission to register case against him.

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh in a statement here on Saturday said, “The Chief Minister is continuously misusing his office, first the dates of the local bodies election were postponed due to his foreign tour and now he has made announcement for interest free loans for farmers. If the State Election Commission does not take cognisance of this, then I would lodge complaint with it on Monday.”
Singh further said that the Chief Minister and his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are continuously slaughtering the democracy in the State. After having ridiculed the model code of conduct in the Maheshwar byelection by misusing administration, they are now out to influence the voters in the local bodies’ elections.
He said that Chouhan’s announcement is clear case of overlooking the ongoing election procedure and violation of the model code of conduct. It is also for the first time that the State Election Commission changed the dates after announcing them because the Chief Minister was expected to go on foreign tour.
The Leader of Opposition said that the BJP does not have faith in the democracy and it is continuously engaged in demolishing democracy in the State. The way the BJP and the Chief Minister’s office pressurised the State Election Commission for changing election and counting dates have created a question mark over the impartiality of the commission and put it under dock.
